Explaining the Japanese Guru Rating

Welcome to Japan Guru. This website reviews everything Japanese that can be found in Singapore, but it's different from the standard review site you might find out there. It ranks restaurants, products, food, and activities based on how "authentically Japanese" they may be.

So our ranking may not necessarily be ranked on how "yummy" a restaurant is. Don't get me wrong, a restaurant's food quality is always essential. However, more than the quality, it ranks how "authentically Japanese" it is. So a delicious dish heavily localized may score lower than an authentic Japanese dish.

A little confusing?

Well, think of it this way. What if someone looking for a sushi restaurant came up to you and asked, "Where can I get an authentic Japanese sushi experience"?

This question is the one that Japan Guru will answer.

The Japanese Guru Rating is a rating system between 0 and 10 to rank how authentically Japanese the experience is. Here is a guideline on what the score means.

If the score is between 0 and 2.5

I never want anything to do with this restaurant/shop/product/experience again.

If the score is between 2.5 and 5.0

If I had no other choice, I suppose I may go. But I'll try to avoid it as much as possible in the future.

If the score is between 5.0 and 7.5

It's a good restaurant/shop/product/experience that I may go to in the future. However, it won't go as far as recommending it as an "authentic Japanese experience" to a friend.

If the score is between 7.5 and 10.0

It's an authentic Japanese experience, and I recommend this restaurant/shop/product/experience to whoever asks.
